Emissions

What is a carbon footprint?

Every time we travel, cook food or use our computers, the fuel burned to generate the power adds greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Major greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, derived from the fossil fuels we use to power our engines or fuel our power stations.

Each of us has a carbon footprint. It’s a measure of the personal amount of greenhouse gas emissions that we create by the way we use energy.

Australians, per head of population, cause among the highest levels of greenhouse gas emissions in the world; we waste a lot of energy and we consume a lot of resources.

One of the biggest impacts on our personal carbon footprint is our personal transport. Did you know that for every litre of petrol burned more than two kilograms of carbon dioxide is emitted? That’s more than four tonnes of gas every year for most cars and around five tonnes for most 4WDs.

How can we reduce our footprint?

There are many ways to reduce our personal impact on the climate. We can buy green power, invest in offsets such as tree-planting programs, cut back home consumption of electricity and gas, and reduce our use of fossil fuels. And we can use an eco-efficient scooter for personal transport.

The greenhouse gas savings to travel the same commuting journey are enormous, and the cost benefits begin as soon as you buy your scooter.

Scootering is fun and convenient. It’s also a cool thing to do for a warming planet.

Fuel consumption rating 10 litres per 100 annual distance travelled 15000 km = 3.6 tonnes of greenhouse gas.
